Why should I compost?

Originally, the Green Cone was designed to safely dispose of kitchen wastes from the inventor's cabin in Northern Canada. He didn't want to place them in the garbage, as animals would surely get into them and make a mess, and he didn't want to continue to make the 4 hour drive back to Toronto with bags of garbage in his car! From the intial designs began a multi-year process that focussed on developing a simple, commercially-viable home composting unit that was able to handle the average family's waste production, without the general maintenance required for conventional composting.

Landfill sites are rapidly becoming full, or placing restrictions on what may be dumped. A large percentage of landfill garbage is wet, biodegradable material, which may be independently disposed of with a system like the Green Cone digestor/composter. Kitchen wastes not placed in the garbage are often put down a garbage disposal that requires large volumes of water and electricity to run. The Green Cone was designed to replace these destinations for kitchen waste and to provide an equally simple system to incorporate into individual households.
