History:
- The house has been owned by attorneys during most of its history.
- William G. Rowley, a prosperous lawyer, built it and the family lived here until almost the end of the century.
- In the mid-20th century, Mordecai Greenberg occupied it as his law office.
- Within the past twenty years, the he sold it another law firm which opens its office for viewers.
Style and Features:
- This interesting example of the transition form the Italian Villa to the Second Empire style was built during the post-Civil War period when both were popular.
- The square tower with its Roman-arched windows, the square entrance porch, and the bracketed eaves all bespeak the Italianate influence.
- The mansard roof on the north wing and the curved hood over the second story tower window are Second Empire features.
- The tower has unfortunately lost its original roof.
- The tall windows, interior arches, wide moldings, marble fireplaces, and ceiling medalions form a dignified setting for the practice of law.
