
Lawn-Mowers.-The use of
these machines is indicated by the name. The essential parts of the apparatus, a
representative of which is shown in Fig. 87, consist in the wheels and frame, the rotary
cutters, and a stationary knife below, and multiplying gearing for transmitting motion from
the wheels to the cutters. The construction is such that, when the machine travels in one
direction, the cutters are operated, and when moved in the other they are not. The
machine is made in various sizes to adapt it for hand-use, or to enable it to be drawn by a
horse.
